Archy is a suffix meaning rule, as in Monarchy.1 An- a prefix, from the Greek, with the meanings “not,” “without,” “lacking.”2 Together, anarchy means the absence of political authority.

Anarchism is a political philosophy that advocates self-governed societies based on voluntary institutions. … Anarchism holds the state to be undesirable, unnecessary and harmful.3

Political authority, as with all authority, carries autocratic energy leaving its subjects (captives) stressed, oppressed, overburdened, overtaxed, and over-governed. Today, the mere mention of this or any peaceful expression of dissent has not only become enough to cast an authoritarian spotlight on oneself but to deem one as unpatriotic among peers.

What once puzzled me was not how one tolerates the existence of Authority (this seems to come as a matter of self-preservation), but rather how one becomes an active participant in its persecution, i.e., law enforcement, FBI, CIA, NSA, the armed forces. (Although the latter is primarily a function of propaganda gloriously marketed to the young and trusting mind as a heroic, patriotic duty in the guise of national security.) Instead, this alliance is explained as positions of authority invite domineering dispositions.

“All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible.” ~Frank Herbert

Which brings me to veganism, the advocation of self-determination for all earthlings. All. By which veganism is as sure to anarchy as to what anarchy must find in veganism. Together, the evolution of unbridled freedoms. The live and let live revolution.

“How is this revolution to take place? Nobody knows how it will take place in humanity, but every man feels it clearly in himself. And yet in our world everybody thinks of changing humanity, and nobody thinks of changing himself.” ~Leo Tolstoy4

  1. Thanks for the great post, Peter. As a fan of synchronicity and her twin: serendipity, it was much fun to realize that we were both publishing a piece on the same day 🙂
Anarchism is misunderstood, as is the word “vegan” of course. Veganarchism is a delightful match, bringing the belief systems as near as the eye contact that occurs when sentient beings recognize their similarities. Hey, that thought even gets mentioned in that very post I’ve just uploaded to WordPress!

    1. Bill, thanks for your comment. Might I ask if this post appeared in your WP reader? It is the first post published since purchasing WP Premium hosting. And, oddly, it does not appear in my reader, even though I follow myself. — Oh, such vanity. 🙂

  2. It does indeed appear in the WP reader; however, my first notice was an email notification. Hey, I follow myself too: somebody has to do sentry duty and I don’t really trust the green italicizers for that 🙂
BTW, CHS’s new presentation is striking. I particularly like the clickable image links at the end ‘o the page — most particularly of course, my 315 and 1947 blogs. 🙂 🙂
