A Parody of John Lennon’s Imagine. RIP

Imagine there’s no joy
It’s easy if you try
All the sorrow among us
Above us raining sky
Imagine all the earthlings
living life in fear… Aha-ah

Imagine there’s no compassion
It isn’t hard to do
Everything to kill and nothing to live for
Despots and religions too
Imagine all the people
Living lives of hate

You may say I’m melancholic
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll understand us
And the world will be as one

Imagine all your possessions
I seriously doubt you can
With all the greed and gluttony
Beset upon the land
Imagine all the people
selfish for the world

You may say I’m a vegan
But I’m not the only one
I hope someday you’ll join us
And the world will live as one

  1. Thanks for this brilliant and very nicely balanced counterargument, Peter. Humans become so enamored of themselves, so very proud of their ability to build monuments to celebrate their self-importance, to immortalize scriptures that flow with blood from their very inception, to leverage their imagination for ever more outrageous folly in fashion and fads, to torture and butcher, then to parse the parts of animal flesh, fur and bone, wrap in waxed paper or stretch-wrapped oils of ancient biomass from previous extinctions, to devise a means to harness the electrons that parse product bars that pronounce a profit and initiate a reorder to a “meat processing facility” for beef and pork and poultry — as American as a hot dog and a holiday bird. A tortured animal resource for everyday families every day. I imagine them.
