20,000 Miles

In retaliation to the attacks against vegans in social networks across the globe and in face-to-face confrontations.

Vegans. Are we perfect? No. But, we are better than you.

Our understanding spans light-years beyond that of the self-absorbed masses. We have respect for life that no religious/spiritual pretense dare compare. A working vision for the future that culminates in world peace if only you could imagine.

As with any conviction, our dedication draws an assault of absurd arguments meant to discredit us while making animal rights activists out as terrorists.[1] A judgment handed down by the authorities at the demand of their handlers and favored by the sniveling populace.

Accusations against us grow from a baseless albeit a well-fertilized malice. Ranging from the fatuous to more pressing matters we cannot stall. Hypocrisy, because we kill.

We murder the multitude of insects that splatter against the grills and windshields of our automobiles, ones we disembowel cultivating our gardens or them we’ve disembodied mowing our lawns. We might even swat mosquitoes and flies, might poison the termites that eat our environmentally flawed dwellings.

We are mindful of our crimes committed against the delicate vulnerabilities of nature, necessitated by our captivity in a profit-driven, pseudo civilization. Unlike you, we strive to lessen our impact.

BTW, we realize plants are a life form. So, drop the chorus of adolescent jokes. As well, we are not trying to convert Nature’s predators into vegans. You’re a dull, witless idiot to say such.

Here’s the skinny. Likened to a 20,000-mile journey, we’ve taken only the first steps. Narrowing the gap between where we are and where our futures intend requires time. The time we may not have. An ultimatum you decide in your dystopian drive toward annihilation: endless war and your obeisant patriotism. The swarm of unfettered violence and senseless murders of innocent creatures, the driving power of apocalypse.

Your unsustainable life choices inflamed by greed and rapacity:

It isn’t veganism aiding the world’s sixth mass extinction,[2] nor global warming.[3]

It isn’t veganism contaminating the waterways and oceans. It is the agricultural runoff that creates hypoxic dead zones.[4]

It isn’t veganism depleting the oceans of fish,[5] A third of those ground into livestock feed,[6] leaving behind a killing entanglement of fishing nets.[7] Nor is it veganism that sustains the abominable ‘Sea Slave’ fishing trade.[8]

It isn’t veganism decimating the rainforests to gain acreage for livestock and the crops to feed them.[9]

It isn’t veganism squandering resources to process, store, refrigerate, dispose, and transport the remains and refuse of doomed and slaughtered earthlings.[10] Nor is it veganism that depletes fresh water reserves.[11]

Veganism isn’t the reason people starve. This is a famine fed by the insatiable appetite for meat. Because it’s not veganism buying third-world feed crops to sustain western livestock.[12]

Someday, if you and your ilk haven’t by then destroyed the planet, will come a time when people live in accord with nature. As when humans stop procreating exponentially, spreading and stacking one on top the other. When machinery and technology give way to biological innovations and adaptations.

No cars to run down animal and insect. Nor roads, walls, and fences to inhibit wildlife.

An open landscape of clean soil, air, water, and sustainability steeped in compassion and cooperation with Nature and one another.

Then all will have plenty.

We may even reach the stage of our evolution when we no longer need harvest plants, living off the sun’s energy alone. But even if we don’t, even if we need plant nourishment to survive we will till the soil with our hands, tender as the Buddhist monks.

The 20,000-mile journey of the vegan is today but the embryo of Utopia.

I know vegan concepts orbit beyond your diminutive sphere of care and reasoning and that you’ll continue to devalue those who aspire to higher realms of existence. I know too that one of two outcomes are inevitable and soon forthwith, in the cosmic sense. Either attrition will dissolve your kindred and life will live in its natural harmony. Or, the planet will die an agonizing death. No fault of the vegan.

So, while you’re quick to ridicule our principles, we offer sustainability while you’re committed to depletion. We present healthy alternatives while you stay patsy to the medical/pharmaceutical/research/animal agricultural cartels. We’re compassionate; you’re a brute. You’re a parasite and terror to the planet and all its life forms. A selfish, gluttonous, short-sighted simpleton whose concerns run shallow, anchored in unreformable arrogance. You’re a plague, and a contaminate, a virus to infect your offspring and others with your self-purposing dogma.

Viva La Vevolution!

Awakening

No awakening, no struggle for social justice nor fight for civil rights, no undermining of authority, is ever complete that ignores the plights of the most vulnerable, the animals. The right of self-determination for all earthlings. The respect of life and liberty for all sentients is the doom of all war and oppression, the gateway to meaningful peace. Until then, we gather what we sow. And nothing more.

This is War

This is War
Image: Animals Australia

This is war.

I’ve championed peace and struggled against undercurrents for far too long when all along war raced torrents through my veins.

Like screeching banshees clawing their way from Hade’s bowels, I cannot restrain my lust for war any longer.

War has proved the normality of our species and served many, many faithfully well; adding treasures to the coffers of serious self-concern.

To deny war is to deny my manhood as it is to deny our Creator Himself, the Miserable God, and His warring belligerents.

And I am but a lowly, ignorant form.

And so, I yield to the Lordly ways that our species has so aptly adorned.

War shall be my comrade, my pleasure. My desire.

My duty.

Alas! The passive has withered and died and now from the ashes, I rise and cry: Warrior!

My face I paint.

I feel as though the pressing weight of Peaceful Hope has flown from my shoulders.

I can breathe, again.

I am a man, destined and fit to do battle!

The warrior.

And I challenge any who oppose me, fight. Fight as though all you cherish is at risk, as though your very livelihood depends on it. Because it does.

And I will be your formidable opponent, my word.

As our gracious Lords, have demonstrated time and again with their momentous and unmerciful wars of conquest, their farcical wars against drugs, their charade of wars against cancer, their pretense wars against obesity, their fictive wars against poverty, their collaborative wars against crime, their wars against every manner known to God or man, war is by their blessing example, honorable.

And I am an honorable man.

So, comes the time to declare my war, the war against the oppression of the most vulnerable and harmless among us, our fellow sentients. Those that you imagine feel no pain nor harbor desire for life. Those who you humiliate and call animals with contempt in your tone, those whose tortured remains you feast on with the least of concern; those who I’ve vowed their liberty to protect, I call friends. Them you kill or have killed in your name — and in the most horrific and shocking manner.

And for what do they suffer and die?

To feed the Spirit of War.

Innocent blood is on the hands of a rotten humanity wrought from the war slung venom that flows through painless hearts.

Make no mistake, this is a war. Where no bombs explode, no bullets fly no fires rage into the sky no sirens blare no medics care, and no war criminal is ever, ever held to account.

But it is a wickedly merciless endless war nonetheless that murders more earthlings than all other wars combined.

And for this, humanity holds itself blameless, for they are a shameless warring species.

This is war.

The battle of compassion versus cruelty, understanding versus indifference, right versus wrong.

And I am the warrior, wielding the Sword of Words, multi-edged, lightning-sharp, indisputable, and indestructible.

And I challenge you, the enemies of freedom, fight. Fight as though every lie you’ve faithfully accepted from the vomit of Authority depends on it. Because it does.

I am the warrior. Stand ready, this is war.

Simulation Hypothesis

Of all things in the mighty universe,
the planets, moons, stars, and unfathomed space.
And so many life forms that came to be:
in the forest, hills, plains, mountains, and sea.
Of all inanimate objects there are,
why did I become this man that I am?
A curse, a blessing, my soul’s regressing.
Oh, why couldn’t I just never have been?
Never have end for never had begin!
There are no answers, and yet I drudge on,
knowing well the answer will never dawn.

We have no explanations, only dubious hypotheses to questions of our origin, our purpose if any. Only fools profess to know the unknowable. Myself, I can’t help but wonder, is it all an illusion, the fancy profusion of fake realities? A computer simulation, a binary stimulation? A contest, to see who wins and who loses. Who rises above the cruel and mundane? Then what is the prize awaiting the wise? And what of the fate of the losers?

Simulation Hypothesis

America, Where Are You Now?

It doesn’t say who bombed the shelter. Even if it did, it would only be more finger pointing instead of fact. Misinformation and disinformation are the norms, and the USA may well be the leader in that arena.

What we do know is that America provokes and escalates violence and instability throughout the world and therefore is no less culpable.

The video has enlivened in me an emotion lying just beneath a thinning surface: America, where are you now?

The violence that America perpetrates in the name of national security is an elaborate hoax. Wars are the lifeblood of its burgeoning political-corporate-military-industrial complex.

War, as with the oppression of animals, many livelihoods depend on. And thus America has become addicted. A junkie strung out and unreasoned, convinced that war and animal flesh are both good and needed.

This never-ending violence angers me to never-ending.

I joined the USAF near the end of the Vietnam war, a confused young man. I stayed state-side, and so I don’t associate as a Vietnam vet, per se. Nonetheless, the stigma remains. However, the point I’d like to make is this, my final disillusionment in the people of a country I believed at one time desired peace.

Foolishly, I thought peace was the goal. And, I believed it attainable.

I saw the mass demonstrations during the Vietnam war. Young people fled to Canada. People burned their draft cards. Students protested, and four were gunned down at Kent State. The Ohio National Guard willfully turned its guns on unarmed, nonthreatening young American citizens and opened fire, a tragedy now nearly forgotten, known as the May 4 Massacre.

Inside me, I knew that once this war was over America would never fight another. Its people had had enough of war. Enough of sending their sons and daughters off to die in foreign lands. Enough of executing its citizens on the home ground.

Likewise, I knew that when people saw the brutal reality of animal agriculture veganism would become a wave that swept the entire world in compassion.

Was I ever wrong?

War protests are now a blemish on American history.

Animal enslavement has reached epidemic proportions.

The peace and love movement had died a silent, lonely death. Its aging hippies now very much defending the status quo. Trading bell-bottoms and paisley print for suit and tie. Peace for war.

To speak out against war is unpatriotic. To express discontent, the act of a traitor.

War is what we are; it defines us. Violence is what we do, daily in our lives, to the people, to the animals. It is on our plates, literally; and from there its escalation has no end.

And peace? Well, that’s just a word, a concept I can no longer believe in.

Although my bell-bottoms and paisley prints live only in the faded snapshots of an era long ago, I never have nor will I ever own a suit and tie. These are the garments worn by the representatives of Authority. They serve as a constant reminder of oppression and war.

As I write this, as relevant then as now, Steppenwolf’s, Monster, plays in the background and asks, “America, where are you now…Don’t you know we need you? We can’t fight alone against the monster.”

Comparing Us to Animals?

The Animals
Image credit: Unknown. But whoever the artist, they did a mighty fine job. Kudos.

Us and Them, Let’s See

Who hasn’t heard numerous times before that, “You can’t compare humans to animals. That’s ridiculous.”

For example, you can’t compare the Jewish Holocaust with the animal holocaust or black slavery to the slavery of animals. Or, simply human suffering to animal suffering.

I agree, it’s preposterous.

It’s belittling.

No valid comparison can a rational person conjure.

What demented reasoning defies logic to suggest an identity between the two? Ha!

Double Ha!

What possible presentation could infer equality? Only, lunacy.

Who contests we have no equal? Who dare?

What animal, ever, in its existence, possessed the indispensable disposition to initiated a war. None! Damn you, I say, none.

What animal able of producing massive amounts of disposables to overload the landfills and fill the mighty oceans? Yes, only us, and us alone!

What animal ever invented machinery able to pollute the air, water, and land with such ease and indifference? The mere utterance, asinine.

What animal capable of creating genetically modified organisms, medicines, chemicals, and poisons able to sicken and disease every living organism? Oh phew!

What animal maliciously harms another? Rape? Murder? Steal? Lie? Cheat? Grab a pussy?

What other being commands such convoluted communication skills as to sow ambiguity and dubiety into every syllable? Bark, bark. Meow, meow. Moo, moo. Really?

What animal ever watched Jerry Springer?

What animal willingly surrenders their freedom to empower an Authoritarian Overlord? A government they bow to? And then willingly pays this Determining Absolute the fruit of their labors? Come-on.

What animal creates imaginary Gods to give license to injustice? Damn you; they have no such imaginings. Thank God.

Now, who fancies any animal even remotely capable of such atrocities as the Holocaust, or that of black slavery, or the genocide of whole native populations, or the extinctions of entire species, or animal agriculture? None!

How dare any dunderhead compare us to the animals. Idiots.

Loving Mother and Calf

Why I Write

I write for change.

I write to free the slaves.

I write to expose the criminals.

I write to protect the innocent.

I write to denounce the guilty.

I write to reveal cruelty.

I write for the voiceless.

I write for freedom.

I write for peace.

I write as though all the world is reading.

As if, all the world cared.

Changed

They tell me I’ve changed,

but they don’t know the half.

They say I’ve lost my mind,

but it was never mine to begin.

—At an art fair in Southern Indiana

artists peddle their overpriced wares, nice as they are,

to the interested disinterested masses

who will go home carrying mostly what they came with.

There’s a fat, red-faced white man wearing a bow tie and straw hat,

his shirt wet with salty sweat,

holding the reins to his horse-drawn carriage,

sitting beneath the shade of the built-in canopy,

while his slave horses bake in the sun on the hot pavement

beside God’s Christian church where they’re serving chicken breasts

to the old folks bused in from who-the-fuck-knows-where.

(Little do any of these, the old fat fucker, or God even care as long as they all get what they came for: money, a meal, obedience.)

A racially mixed crowd marches through the streets protesting the KKK,

who are protesting Goddamn knows what.

However, the straight-piped Harleys drown them both out

in a sea of roaring CCs, with attitudes to match.

Thick smoke drifts up in the hot still air from the food corridor,

where folks revel on the flesh of my friends,

invading like a mob in a creepy zombie film show,

immersing clothes, hair, and eyes in a rancid haze

nauseating the senses of the sensitive,

while I buy six dollars a bar, handmade soap

—only because it’s vegan.

A few miles down, in middle of the road, a deer lies slowly dying,

her legs twitch, her eyes alert.

Hit by a distracted driver posting selfies to Instagram—

because the bitch thinks she’s special and can.

With 4000+ faux Facebook friends, what other possible conclusion is there?

Well, I think you know what the problem is just as well as I do.

The Millennial’s mother told her, she was special,

and so she believes it.

Well, she’s not and neither are you.

—Unless you’re doing something special, you’re just another

run-of-the-mill, bottom-dwelling crap-sucker

sucking hind tit off an Empire struggling

to defeat 30,000 Taliban

while it taunts a billion Chinese

and a million Russians into war,

set to the music of a nuclear finale.

But still, its dutiful citizens pledge allegiance.

(Except for a handful down on one knee.)

And the nation prepares to make it all better

by voting to be, “Stronger Together.”

A megalomaniac on one side a psychopath on the other,

take your pick, red or blue, it doesn’t fucking matter.

Meanwhile a white teenager, his hair in dreadlocks,

takes a brow beating from a black girl, her hair in dreadlocks,

both look hip as shit, but accusing him of

“Cultural Appropriation.”

What the fuck?

Who starts all this confrontational interpretation?

In my time, and I know that’s irrelevant,

it was that imitation was the sincerest form of flattery.

No more, now it’s a personal affront.

Another goddamn wedge forced between people

pretending to fight for social justice,

while they rob liquor stores and steal TVs

from their own neighborhood establishments.

And nobody realizes they’re being played to the hilt,

by an elite who’s dead-set on destroying us all for a trillion bucks,

and the power to match.

…they say I’ve changed.

Why You Should be Vegan

Five reasons why you should be vegan.

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”–Dr. Seuss

  1. For the cows in dairy hell, cattle ranches and farms; for the pigs stuffed into gestation crates and pens; for the hens jammed into battery cages and those packed together in “free-range” style; for the creatures burned, cut, poisoned, and experimented on; for those fearfully huddled together in fur farms, zoos, and pet stores; for the fish, turtles, and frogs hooked, gigged, speared, and netted; for the lobsters and crawfish boiled alive; for all the animals betrayed, snared, trapped, tricked, and shot; for those beaten physically and psychologically into submission for entertainment; for those chained, hungry, and thirsty with nowhere to go for relief; for those who’ve lost the will to live, suffering without hope.

  2. It is an ongoing act of civil disobedience. A damn fucking good one. A compelling demonstration of contempt against the corporate-capitalist forces aligned against us earthlings.

  3. It is potent medicine for an ailing planet.

  4. No greater comprehensive testimony of caring is possible.

  5. It’s a damn healthy diet.

5a. It’s the right thing to do.

I Am Eternity

I am Eternity

Before there was

there was I

And I, will always be

The keeper of mysteries

The eye of beginnings

The witness to all endings

Forever was I before a thought . . .

– Before the age of the universe

I watched the density of all matter

Explode into being!

The slow expansion of all the planets, moons, and stars

in all the solar systems there are –

IN ALL OF EVERYTHING AND NOTHING!

Across the distance of unfathomable

I watched the unhurried orbs find their orbits

I watched this planet –

This Paradise, painstakingly spring to life,

all from the measure of nothing . . .

I watched landmass split to continents

yield to oceans vast, deep

team with life

I watched tiny little streamlets

silently gurgle gorges into towering windswept mountains

grown to raging rivers

I watched nature hybrid

all the plants

all the creatures

all the microscopic

And I saw harmony abound

Beautiful, peaceful harmony

Balance.

Then came mankind.

And it took me by no surprise

the destruction you prize

the suffering you institutionalize

the terror you militarize

the arrogance you disguise!

Tho’ I never expected to know

this degree of suffering you bestow

to all the creatures I’ve known

But know, in The End,

when nothing is all that’s left

I’ll be there

I am Eternity

A New Year’s thought.

People are optimistic, perhaps naturally so in the spirit of hope and desperation. But I believe this optimism clouds their judgment and promotes complacency and indolence. Very much a part of the authoritarian hoax, hope is. As is desperation.

A new year, and with it new hope for a better world. But things aren’t getting better; politically, environmentally, spiritually, compassionately, and in every other way things are only getting worse.

We don’t feel good about ourselves, our lives. We’re frustrated and angry. And if you’re not, you damn well should be. Because things aren’t going well. And all it takes to realize that is to open your eyes. Never before in history have we seen, allowed, or participated in the degree of suffering and destruction that runs rampant on earth – to our own kind, to the planet, to the creatures we are brutal. And still, in spite of all this, like an immature child, we hope, we pray, and sometimes complain.

The time for hope is over.

The time for talk is past.

The time for action is now . . . or never.

If you really want a “new year,” a kinder gentler world, truly want a better future for yourself, for your children, for the creatures and the planet, then simply act accordingly. That’s all it takes; baby-steps, to turn this streamlet into a raging river. Grab the future by the reins! Stop putting faith, hope, and dependence on the world’s religious, political, and corporate leaders. They’re psychopaths. All of them. Their only goal is ensuring the endless promotion of their own power and wealth while their only need of you is distracted servitude. To pay taxes and tithes, fees, fines, licensing, permits, lotteries, and tolls; to steal more and more of your labors, to do their bidding, to fight their unbelievable-profit making wars, to keep them in absolute power and wealth while you struggle pathetically to make ends meet. To keep the world divided in fear, hope, and desperation.

Happy new year.
